The five bases of power are coercive power, reward power,
legitimate power, expert power, and referent power (Stephen P. Robbins, Timothy
A. Judge, 2009). The three types of formal power are coercive, reward, and
legitimate. Coercive power, this source of power is also problematic and can be
subject to abuse, cause unhealthy behavior, and dissatisfaction in the
workplace.
